Panasonic has launched a new micro four-thirds camera that introduces budding photographers to its Lumix G series.

Panasonic’s Lumix DMC-GX1 was unveiled at a press event in Sydney today. The introductory micro four-thirds camera will deliver “shooting that is powerful, yet pocketable” according to Panasonic’s General Marketing Manager, Richard Tassone.

The latest addition to Panasonic’s Lumix G series will offer a 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor, a built in flash, Live View Finder and a hot shoe up top, all in the classically petit micro four-thirds body.

“Enthusiasts will also appreciate features such as the ability to customise the camera by assigning their own personal settings; and ‘Level Gauge’ which displays the horizontal or vertical angle of view on-screen,” said Alistair Robins, Group Marketing Manager, Panasonic.

Videos will be recorded in full HD 1080p quality, with the ability to capture still images mid-video.

it’ll be compatible with 14 different interchangeable lenses, with an optional mount adaptor enabling usage with any lens that complies with the micro four-third standard.

The DMC-GX1 will be in stores come December with a body only RRP of $899. Additional lens kits range between $999 and $1,199.
