Panasonic and Sharp are believed to have joined forces to start mass producing large-size OLED display panels in an effort to take on LG and Samsung.LG is tipped to have a new panel available in Australia by the last quarter. It is unknown when Samsung will launch their OLED offering.
The Panasonic-Sharp panel will not be available till 2014. It is not known when or if Sony will source their dispay screens from the same manufacturers.
DigitTimes said that currently Korea-based manufacturers only have enough capacity to produce enough OLED shipments for Korea-based firms. This has resulted in Japanese TV manufacturers looking to Taiwan and China for manufacturers to counterbalance market competition.
Its tipped that by 2014 Korea-based manufacturers will be producing panel sizes other than 55-inch.
