A senior executive of Panasonic has said that that they will not postpone price rises indefinitely and that a recent media report claiming that they intended to delay them indefinitely was “inaccurate”.
Paul Read the Director of Panasonics consumer products division told ChannelNews today that prices rises across several product categories were still going ahead however the “timing may change by a few day” he said.
“We announced our price rises to retailers back in December 2008 however the media did not report on it till January 2009. Every vendor is facing price rises in particular the Japanese vendors. It is inevitable but not desirable in the current economic climate” said Read.
Earlier this week Carl Rose the Managing Director of Sony Australia told ChannelNews said that price rises of up to 30% in some product categories will still go ahead and that most vendors were facing price rise issues this year.
