Japanese electronics maker Panasonic has announced it’s working on a videography-focused model of its full-frame mirrorless cameras, as it seeks to draw customers away from Sony’s similar models.
The Lumix S1H is due to be released later this year, and Panasonic claims it will be the first digital interchangeable-lens camera capable of shooting 6K video at 24p as well as 10-bit 60p 4K.
Panasonic said the S1H will have an unlimited shoot time provided the camera stays below the recommended operating temperature.
Panasonic will also include support for V-Log and V-Gamut wide-dynamic range technology out of the box, rather than the paid update option the company has offered on other products in the past.
Customers who have already invested in the Lumix S1 can purchase a key (A$299) to upgrade their camera software to support V-Log and V-Gamut, among other features, from next month.
The Lumix S line sits in direct competition to Sony’s pioneering A7 line, the first auto-focusing full-frame mirrorless cameras when announced in 2013.
With the addition of the S1H the Lumix S line will also feature three models, the base S1 (A$3599), the higher-resolution S1R (A$5299), and the videography-focused S1H (pricing TBC), mirroring Sony’s line but at a higher price-point.
Panasonic announced the S1H over the weekend at the Cine Gear Expo in Los Angeles.
The company has also released the Leica DG Vario-Summilux 10-25mm / F1.7 ASPH lens (A$2799) it previewed at Photokina for its G-series micro-four-third cameras, as well as introducing new teleconverters for its Lumix S zoom lenses.
The 1.4x (A$799) and 2x (A$999) teleconverters are expected to arrive in Australia mid-July.
