Panasonic is set to enter the bottom end of the LCD HD TV market with a new range of small display offerings ranging in size from 19″ up to 26″.

Panasonic is set to enter the bottom end of the LCD HD TV market with a new range of small display offerings ranging in size from 19″ up to 26″.

The move comes as GFK reports record growth for small LCD TV’s.

Paul Read the General Manager of Panasonics Audio Visual Division said “there are more than a million small CRT TV’s out in the market that still need to be replaced. We believe that with our new offering of small TV’s we can be highly competitive”.

Currently Panasonic is the #1 supplier of plasma TV’s in Australia and during the past 8 weeks have been the #1 supplier of Blu ray players.

“Right now we are witnessing record growth. We are having a lot of success with our plasma TV’s and Blu ray players and it makes sense for us to be in the smaller TV market because of the amount of small CRT TV’s that are still in use in bedrooms, kitchens and in small apartments” said Read.

In recent weeks Panasonic has delivered price cuts for their plasma and TV offerings with Read claiming that market conditions and an improving dollar had led to the cuts.

“Earlier in the year when the dollar fell we lifted our prices. We said at the time that if conditions changed that we would readdress the issue. We are now doing that with price cuts” said Read.
