[highlight ]Panasonic has unveiled its Leica DG Summilux 12 mm/f1.4 ASPH lens (35 mm camera equivalent: 24 mm), adding to its range of interchangeable lenses for its Lumix G Micro Four Thirds system cameras.[/highlight]
Panasonic states that the lens’ f1.4 large aperture supports low-light and astrophotography, along with demanding video applications, producing “an impressive, natural defocusing effect”, while its “24 mm wide angle has appeal from dramatic landscape shots to architecture and drone photography”, with an aperture ring providing direct, intuitive control.
An inner focus drive system and a stepping motor sees the lens “capable of smooth, silent operation together with Panasonic’s high-speed, high-precision Depth from Defocus (DFD) technology for both photo and video recording”, Panasonic states, with DFD supporting “the precise focusing essential for recording 4K video”.
The lens system comprises 15 elements in 12 groups, integrating two aspherical lenses, two UED (Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses and an ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lens, while nine blades provide the aperture a rounded shape, producing “an attractively smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings”.

The Leica DG Summilux 12 mm/f1.4 ASPH will be available in the Australian market in August, priced at $1,799 RRP.
