Four weeks ago Philips issued a statement claiming that they were set to shut up shop after failing to find a buyer for the business which is set to come under pressure from a new generation of iPads and tablets that eliminate the need for a remote control device in the home.
The TSW9500 touchscreen which looks like a wall mounted iPad was, shipped to Qualify with the label 001 it is currently being evaluated by Qualifi engineers with the Company looking to start selling the device early in 2011.
According to Michael Henriksen the CEO of Qualifi the Philips Pronto business has been up for sale for some time and after discussions broke down with prospective buyers the Company decided to announce the closure of the business.
Shortly after the announcement several interested parties stepped forward to express interest in the Pronto business.
Late last week Rudy Musschebroeck, marketing manager for Philips Consumer Lifestyle, confirmed the shipment of “trial-run” TWS9500 units, “as was planned and communicated.”
Musschebroeck told CE Pro, “The TSW9500 devices will be produced in limited quantity as part of the last-time buy opportunity given to our customers. So they will ship in December. The PEP3 software is due to be released soon too, as planned.”
