Pioneer Australia will not be slashing jobs despite last night’s announcement that the Company is pulling out of the plasma TV market.
Instead the Company is set to expand their Hi Fi and AV attach business with new IPod attach devices and an expanded Hi Fi line up.
However shortly after an internal staff meeting Richard Bragg the general manager of the mobile entertainment group at Pioneer Electronics Australia announced his exit from the Company after 30 years with the Australian operation.
“The announcement has nothing to do with yesterdays announcements” said an official press release.
Rob Thompson, general manager of corporate planning and strategy at Pioneer Electronics Australia said that nothing would happen in relation to their current head count despite Pioneer Corporate announcing that globally they are set to cut 10,000 jobs.
“We will wait till our new budget period in April and then evaluate the situation in Australia” said Thompson.
He also said the Company had an excellent commercial business and would continue selling their IT range into the Australian market.
We started off in audio and we are going back to our roots. Comparatively we have only been in the plasma market a very short time and in that time we have witnessed a lot of grief. We have the knowledge and the capability to deliver a new generation of sound systems and over coming months you will see new iPod devices and new high end audio systems from Pioneer”
Richard Bragg said “My years at Pioneer have been very fulfilling and I have made many strong friendships. This is a difficult decision based on the need for change,” said Bragg.
Chris Kotis, national sales manager for the mobile entertainment division, has assumed a care-taker role as general manager for the group.
