With demand continuing to decrease amid the deteriorating global economy, the fourth quarter shipments of large-size LCD panels have seen a decline during the traditional peak season this year, the research firm explained.
In terms of applications, shipments of 12.1-inch-and-larger panels for notebooks dropped 28.4% to 7.86 million units in November from 10.98 million units in October because of the slower PC market in general and strong demand for netbooks that undermined the large-size notebook panel segment. Shipments of LCD monitor panels dropped 23% to 10.46 million units in November, while shipments of LCD TV panels decreased 19.3% sequentially to 7.51 million units.
Large-size TFT-LCD panel area shipments dropped 21% to 4.72 million square meters in November from 5.99 million square meters in October, and down 19% on year. Notebook LCD panel area shipments dropped 29.5% to 530,000 square meters in November, while LCD TV panel area shipments dropped 19.3% to 2.92 million square meters. LCD monitor panel are shipments went down 21.3% sequentially to 1.27 million square meters in November.
