It’s hard to avoid gender stereotypes here, but the growing girl-gamer population (as well as sensitive-male gamer population) will be excited to hear that Sony is bringing out PlayStation 2 in a funky new colour – pink!
The limited edition Pink PlayStation 2 is being launched by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe at the games convention in Leipzig opening tomorrow. It will be available to European gamers from 8 November this year and will come with the essential accessories – two pink analog controllers (dualshock2) as well as an 8MB pink memory card.
Sony said the pink console reflects the “growing and diverse demographic that PlayStation 2 has developed.”
“PlayStation 2 is the accessible, affordable way to enjoy new social, communal and interactive entertainment experiences, through software titles such as SingStar, Buzz and EyeToy. The Pink PlayStation 2 is funky, fresh, and fashionable, and will further broaden the console’s continuing popularity and relevance with a fun new twist,” said PlayStation 2 European Brand Manager, Dan Hill.
So will the new pretty-in-pink console be available in Australia? Unfortunately not. Sony PlayStation spokesperson Adrian Christie said “The pink console will not be available in Australia in the forseeable future. The black and silver consoles currently available in Australia are doing really well, but we’re not sure that the pink console will do as well in Australia at this time.”
