We have known for a little over a month that the PlayStation Classic is on its way. It has now been confirmed to be reaching out shores right before the Christmas period, pre-loaded with 20 classic games for $149.99 from December 3, 2018.
The original PlayStation was released way back in 1994, making this is an ideal gift for gamers and nostalgia lovers.
Even younger gamers who never used the original PlayStation will definitely have experience with later iterations of the console and the games that debuted on the original version — including Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil.
The PlayStation Classic is coming pre-loaded with our favourite games from the 90s and early 00s, including Final Fantasy VII, Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil Director’s Cut, Ridge Racer Type 4, and Tekken 3.
The console is a miniaturised and mirror version of the original PlayStation — approximately 45% smaller than the original according to Sony — retaining the same logo, button layout and packaging but it can fit into the palm of your hand.
Sony’s strategy appears to be similar to Nintendo’s NES Classic Mini that was released back in November 2016, no news on whether there will be limits to the amount available.
The PlayStation Classic connects to your TV via HDMI, and games will be displayed in their original resolution (720p or 480p).
The console also comes with two full-size wired gaming controllers plus a virtual memory card to save your adventures as you switch between titles.
The PlayStation Classic will be available in Australia from December 3, 2018, at $149.99. Find out more at PlayStation’s website.
