Sony Ericsson, who is struggling to get traction in the Smartphone market in Australia, have reported a 48% slump in profits, with things set to get worse in the next quarter.The company which introduced the Xperia Play, which includes gaming functions from Sony’s PlayStation console is trying to improve battery life on the device at a time when they are facing component shortages for their Android phones which now make up 60 percent of their Smartphone offering.
Sony Ericsson, said that first-quarter net profit fell to EUR11 million from EUR21 million in the same period a year ago. The company in now forecasting “modest” growth in total handsets in the global market for 2011.
The company said that they only managed to ship 8.1 million phones during the quarter – a 23 per cent decrease year-on-year.
