Sony Computer Entertainment has claimed that since the launch of its new low cost PlayStation, sales have increased dramatically and that during last week’s US Thanksgiving holiday, brand unit sales during the week increased by 178 percent and sales dollars increased by 154 percent.
Furthermore, Sony said that on a year-on-year basis, PS3 hardware sales were up 245 percent on last year. And since November 2, when the new 40GB SKU and the reduced in price ($699) 80 GB model both were available, Sony said PS3 hardware sales are up 298 percent.
Officials did not provide software sales data, but we would guess that top titles such as Guitar Hero III, Rock Band, Assassin’s Creed and PS3 exclusives such as Ratchet & Clank Future and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune were big drivers for the PS3.
As for Sony’s other platforms, the company said that PSP hardware sales increased by 136 percent compared to the previous week, while PS2 hardware sales increased by 287 percent compared to the previous week.
