HTC’s chief executives aren’t impressed with Samsung’s Galaxy S4 claiming Samsung has duped the masses by focussing on gimmicky features that birth no real innovation, all the while plugging their own flagship, the HTC One.
Last Friday, Samsung unveiled their new flagship, the Galaxy S4. It combines cutting edge hardware-a 5 inch Full HD screen, an 8 core processor (in some markets) and a 13MP camera-with a suite of new software features. Carriers and customers alike are swooning over the revamped smartphone as UK carrier Phone 4U claims presales have increased by 40% compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S3.

Despite the almost across-the-board reverence towards the Galaxy S4, HTC’s key executives are targeting Samsung for focussing “more on marketing than innovation.”
In an interview with Business Insider, HTC’s North America president Mike Woodward highlighted the Galaxy S4’s stunted design.
“We were pleased to see no innovation in the design itself,” he said. His following statement suggests Samsung is trying to buy its position as Android top-dog with its obscene marketing budget.
“I think Samsung is trying to overwhelm us with money and marketing and then pushing multiple features out there.”

The sentiment was shared with HTC’s Chief Marketing Officer, Ben Ho, who between jabs described the S4 as paling in comparison to HTC’s own flagship.
“With a continuation of a plastic body, and a larger screen being the most obvious physical change, Samsung’s new Galaxy pales in comparison to the all-aluminum unibody HTC One.”
“This is more of the same. HTC remains the best option for those people looking for the best technology wrapped in premium design. Our customers want something different from the mainstream, who appear to be the target for the Galaxy.”
Even HTC’s twitter feed perpetuated distaste in the Galaxy S4 by re-tweeting posts favouring the HTC One to the Samsung Galaxy S4.
