Fed up of gas burners or more the problem of having to clean them after being used? Then there is the issue of them not looking as stylish as a sleek clean electricity hotplate.
Now thanks to Fisher & Paykel, gas hotplates are set to be really cool or they will be later this year. At the recent Designex show in Melbourne, Fisher & Paykel showed their new Luna gas cook top which has no protruding parts until you need to cook. Then it’s a case of simply pressing a button and hey presto you have gas hotplates.

The new Fisher & Paykel offering comes in frameless piece of 900mm by 410mm black glass supporting three individual gas burners.
The product is a world-first in cooking with gas burners which rise and retract from the black glass surface. When not in use, the pan supports and burners hide beneath the glass plate. A simple touch and the control and the appliance awaken with the pan supports and burners rising into view. A turn of the control dial instantly ignites the gas ready for cooking.
Gas within frameless ceramic glass in itself represents state-of-the-art design, but the addition of the ‘now you see it – now you don’t’ burner and pan supports make this product unique in the true sense of the word, says Fisher & Paykel marketing manager, Peter Russell.
Fisher & Paykel’s unique Aero fan-assisted burners are also a world first in domestic cooking. The spark-less ignition, instantaneous flame and fan forced gas are all pioneering innovations. Fan assisted gas in particular offers efficient even heat distribution with the contrast of powerful high settings for wok stir frying and incredibly low settings which will melt chocolate in a pot placed directly on the gas.
“Cleaning is effortless as when the cook surface isn’t in use, the burners and supports are hidden beneath. This flat, obstacle-free surface is easily wiped clean. The pan support pins are also removable for ease of cleaning,” said Russell. The design of Fisher & Paykel’s new cook surface featuring three gas burners is a result of research which showed that at any one time only 2.1 burners were ever in use. The reduction in burners allows for a streamlined, narrow and strikingly attractive design.
Launched at the same time will be the accompanying Vent Surface, Project Luna’s matching high tech range hood. The vent surface is a sleek and very stylish partner to the cook surface and features advanced temperature & moisture sensors, automatic fan speed and peripheral extraction technology.
