Hong Kong-based Razer has confirmed previous speculation, revealing its second gaming smartphone (‘Razer Phone 2’) will launch October 10th.
As per its recent earnings report, Razer claims it’s “very pleased” with the success of the first Razer phone – which launched in Australia July – without providing sales numbers.
“The group is very pleased with the success of its first generation Razer Phone, which was released in a limited run and has garnered very positive reviews internationally”
“Razer is now focusing its resources into the development of the second generation Razer Phone and accompanying software releases, which will extend its software and services from PC into the mobile market.”
Despite the company’s claims, some commentators question whether the original Razer phone received less-than-expected global sales, amidst strong market competition.
As previously reported, JB Hi-Fi discounted the gaming phone two months after launch.
October appears to be a smartphone heavy month, with new devices from the likes of Huawei, LG and Google scheduled to launch.
Recent image render leaks claims the Razer Phone 2 will closely resemble the design of its predecessor, despite several component enhancements. The news has disappointed some fans, who criticised the device’s boxy design.
Consumers will have to hold their breath until October 10th for further information, and final specifications.
