A third arrest has been made as police close in on suspected LulzSec hackers.The 18 year old suspected hacker, Jake Davis, arrested in Yell in the Shetland Islands stands accused of offenses including assisting and conspiring to carry out attacks on UK police serious organised crime agency, Soca, reports Guardian.
In all, the teen is said to be facing five charges including: unauthorised access to a computer system, contrary to Section 3 of the Computer Misuse Act 1990 , conspiracy to carry out a Distributed Denial of Service Attack on the Soca site, contrary to S1 Criminal Law Act 1977, and Conspiracy between the defendant and others to commit offences of section 3 Computer Misuse Act 1990 contrary to S1 Criminal Law Act 1977.
An additional charge include encouraging / assisting offences, contrary to S46 of the Serious Crime Act 2007. The arrest was made on Wednesday last.
The youth, widely believed to be LulzSec identity, Topiary, is suspected to be part of the international rebel hacking group who have engaged in a series of high profile attacks on corporate giants including Sony PlayStation network, Nintendo as well as the NHS, CIA and even News International.
Davis is due to appear in custody at City of Westminster magistrates court later today.
Described as an ‘avid chess player’, Davis is the third Briton arrested as part of the police investigation into the hacking attacks. Yell is one of the Shetland islands off the UK’s northerly coast.
Another teen Ryan Cleary, aged 19, believed to be one of the ringleaders of the group was arrested in Essex in June.
LulzSec, a spin off from hacking group Anonymous, describes itself on its Twitter account as: ” Lulz Security (LulzSec), the world’s leaders in high-quality entertainment at your expense”.
No Twitter update appears to have been made on the hackers account since July 27.
However, Topiary’s Twitter account has also been shut down with a single tweet: “You cannot arrest an idea.”
