March sales growth limp.Australian retail turnover rose 0.1 per cent in March, new ABS figures show.
This marks a reverse of the 0.3 per cent rise in February, the last month of summer.
During March, food retailing was up 1.1%, while other retailing (-1.1%), household goods (-0.3%) and department store sales (-0.1%) all fell. However, the trend estimate for electronic goods retail rose 0.3%.
Turnover rose in New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania and the Northern Territory, although none by more than 1%. Sales fell marginally in Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and ACT.
Retail turnover rose 5.7 per cent in March, seasonally adjusted, compared to the same time 2013.
The trend estimate for retail turnover rose 0.5 per cent in March.
