The products recalled are Rheem brand (270 litre, 325 litre and 410 litre) heat pump water heaters with the following model numbers: 451325, 551325, 551410, 554325 and 561325. The company is also recalling Everhot brand (270 litre, 325 litre and 410 litre) heat pump water heaters with the following model numbers: 261270, 261325 and 261410.
The products were sold nationally from 1 September 2008 to 1 October 2010.
According to the company, a small proportion of installed units (less than 1 percent) may experience component failure on the printed circuit board.
“In that event, the compressor may exhibit extreme vibration which may in turn lead to a fracture of the compressor pipework and a failure of the total heat pump module if left unattended,” said the company.
According to the Recalls website, “Consumers who notice that their heat pump water heater is demonstrating short bursts of extreme vibration accompanied by a very loud hammering noise, they should turn the unit off at the switchboard and immediately ring 1800 063 018 to arrange a service call to repair the unit.”
Rheem will be arranging to undertake on-site service modifications to all affected units at no charge. Rheem will also be writing to all known owners of the affected units to arrange a service visit and on-site modifications.
