#NAME?Several security firms have
been analysing the Wi-Fi hotspots set up all over the city of Rio for the
Olympics – and their security has been found woefully wanting. Hackers can
simply set up fake Wi-Fi hotspots all over the city that mimic legit hotspots.
Mobile security outfit Skycure published a report that found fake Wi-Fi
hotspots were spreading like Zika. Shopping malls, coffee shops, hotels and
even the airport were infected with hacker networks. Even the Rio Gale?o
Airport was unknowingly hosting numerous networks with SSL decryption
capabilities.
Getting hacked by connecting to a fake Wi-Fi network can give access to many
things over the network, including bank accounts and passwords.
Security company Kaspersky also ran an analysis of the hotspots – and found
that as many as 18 percent were quite insecure with open configuration.
