Smart TVs using the Roku TV system will now be able to pause free-to-air TV for up to 90 minutes.

By simply adding a USB storage device with at least 16 gigabytes of free space, users can press pause on their remote to freeze any free-to-air channel.

The software update also added a private-listening mode, allowing users to plug headphones into the remote control and mute the TV set for late night viewing.

“As proud owners of Roku devices your experience always stays fresh with automatic software updates providing new features and fixes to give you a great streaming experience,” said Roku TV & Players SVP and GM Chas Smith.

New Hitachi TVs to be released in Australia next year will feature Roku TV, expanding the reach of Roku beyond the company’s current partnership with Telstra for the Telstra TV streaming device.

In a rare move for Smart TVs, every TV released with Roku TV since the system launched in 2014 can be updated to the latest Roku OS 7.5 software to gain the new features.
