Earlier this year, Apple CFO talked of a “product transition” which everyone presumed was a reference to the impending iPhone 5.
However, not so, sources close to Apple are indicating.
According to the unofficial Apple blog, the ‘transition’ could be in fact the beloved iPod – possibly the shuffle or even the classic, sources told it.
“Specifically, if you want to buy an iPod shuffle or iPod classic from Apple, you should do it sooner rather than later,” the Unofficial Apple blog states.
Apple is moving to flash-based memory solutions and as per the rest of its “i” models, upgrading touchscreen devices with old manual buttons now seeming dated.
And god forbid the Cupertino giant would be accused of that. But the timing is also interesting for the move to ditch the music players in their current format.
Just yesterday, Samsung debuted new 4″ and 5″ Galaxy Players running on Android OS, and are touch based, natch.

“We feel pretty confident that Apple will soon discontinue the shuffle and classic, and we see few changes coming for the iPod,” the Apple unofficial blog continues.
The iPod touch will remain the “premium iPod” with the current form factor.
