Will the Apple Watch get a hardware upgrade at Apple’s rumoured March event? As reported by Business Insider, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster expects that the Apple Watch is in for a slight hardware upgrade.
Business Insider reported Munster as explaining in a note sent to clients:
“Apple Watch: expect more of an ‘S’ version with similar design, upgraded components including processor[,] battery, new band styles. Unlikely to have a wireless radio, which would allow standalone (i.e. decoupled from iPhone).”
Should an S version of the Apple Watch be released, it would potentially see Apple taking the same approach as to past iPhone S release cycles.
Varying reports have emerged as to what Apple has in store for the rumoured event.
It had previously been reported that Apple has a new 4″ iPhone in the works, with 9to5Mac reporting it is likely to be called the iPhone 5se, which will be an upgrade of Apple’s iPhone 5s.
9to5Mac has also previously reported that Apple is bringing a series of new band colour options to its Apple Watch line-up, with a March update unlikely to include new hardware functionality.
Apple is said to be preparing to formally release its WatchOS 2.2 update alongside the new models, with a full second-generation redesign of the Apple Watch tracking for a September announcement, 9to5Mac reported.
