The wafer thin TV includes an in built camera and microphone combo flushed into the TV’s thin bezel. Its fluency in audio/visual gestures is courtesy of voice and gesture recognition software developed by Samsung.
When released, the remote-free way of handling the TV will only be possible via Samsung’s menu and SmartHub platform, but the company intends on providing support to keen developers who will embed the capability in future apps.
Sangchul Lee, Senior Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “People want to stay connected to the relationships and information that are important to them” said Samsung’s Senior VP Sangchul Lee.
“Our latest line-up reflects a vision where smarter technology virtually and physically connects users through shared moments in the comfort of their homes.”
The Skype TV application will take advantage of the inbuilt camera and microphone, alleviating the need to spend more money on additional kit, while the larger screen real-estate makes gaming for enjoyable with an HD version of Angry Birds.
Unfortunately there was no word on a Samsung TV running Google software, but fingers are crossed that the affair will be flaunted tomorrow.
