Samsung’s dominance of Android is almost common knowledge, but what shocks us is by how much they lead.According to mobile analysts Localytics, who conducted a study on the top 10 Android devices in January, Samsung accounts for 8 out of the top 10 Android devices worldwide.

Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and its Galaxy S2 grossly dominate the charts. The company’s Galaxy Note and Note II are notable inclusions in fourth and fifth place. The first tablet clocks in at seventh and interestingly it’s the Amazon Kindle Fire. The only other Android brand present is Motorola with their Droid Razr coming in ninth.
Following the launch of the Galaxy S3, Samsung overtook Apple as the largest manufacturer of smartphones in the world.
In total, Localytics estimate Samsung controls almost half of the total Android ecosystem at 47%. They also claim Samsung’s squeeze will “eventually force Android competitors (and non-Android players like BlackBerry and Nokia) to a breaking point.”
Evidently Samsung’s flagships nab a respectable portion of the market, prompting rivals to introduce more competitive smartphones. In the next few months, HTC will unveil its new One smartphone, Sony will release the Xperia Z and in March LG’s Optimus G will be available from Telstra.
