A week after their “secret” roadmap for future product development was plastered over the Internet Qualcomm has been told that they have been dropped by Samsung in favour of a Via Technologies process.
Gigacom said that “if a similar switch away from Qualcomm chipsets occurred across all Samsung’s CDMA phone models, it would represent a real challenge to the market’s status quo”.
At this stage it is not known which Samsung phones will get the new Via Technologies processor.
In future months Qualcomm is set to come under pressure as Intel and AMD start to offer Smartphone and tablet processors.
Analysts say that the deal with Samsung represents a nice win for Via which has struggled in its x86 battle against Intel’s Atom line and recently sold off its S3 Graphics unit for $300 million to HTC.
