What is tipped to be Australia’s first sub-$1000 5G phone has just been unveiled by Samsung with the South Korean company announcing it’s third 5G handset, the Galaxy A90 5G smartphone for Telstra, Optus and other selected retailers.
The Galaxy A90 5G is being positioned at an RRP of $1,049 though ChannelNews is predicting those ‘selected’ retailers to discount the phone in the lead up to the holiday period to bring to fruition the first sub-$1K 5G smartphone in Australia.
Unfortunately, Australia will only be receiving the black variant of the phone, with the white version only available overseas.
First released in South Korea back in September, the Galaxy A90 5G represents what Samsung President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division, DJ Koh is calling ‘a generation of smartphones built for the new Era of Live that focuses on essential features people want the most, including a high-quality camera, long-lasting battery and immersive display’.
‘Samsung has worked tirelessly with our partners in the 5G ecosystem to bring 5G to as many people as possible, and now we are offering 5G connectivity across the entire Galaxy smartphone portfolio, giving more people high-speed access and connected experiences.’
Sporting the Snapdragon 855 5G Mobile Platform, Samsung is positioning the phone as being able to offer customers ‘a range of transformative mobile experiences’ including AI camera capabilities.
Samsung is promoting these AI-camera features to help improve photos taken by the phone’s main 48-megapixel camera with functions like Super Steady, Scene Optimiser, and Flaw Detector, or Live Focus Mode, which is also available in the front-facing 32-megapixel camera.
The 5G phone boasts a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-U which Samsung promises will get you the most out of your multimedia content, and thanks to its 4500mAh battery and 25W Super Fast Charging, you can watch for hours on end.
In a first for the Galaxy A series Samsung DeX has been included to expand the Galaxy A90 5G to your PC screen or TV.
