EXCLUSIVE: Only weeks after LG pulled the plug on their sponsorship deal with the Cronulla Sharks, Samsung has decided not to renew their sponsorship deal with the Sydney Roosters for next season.
According to Samsung Australia executives, the club was told the news some weeks ago.
The loss of millions of dollars worth of sponsorship from consumer electronics Companies, comes as Rugby League struggles with a culture of binge drinking, orgies and drunken behaviour by both management and players.
The loss of Samsung as a key sponsor to the League will come as a big blow for the Sydney Roosters who are currently sitting on the bottom of the table.
A senior Samsung executive told ChannelNews that the decision to not renew their sponsorship deal with the Sydney Roosters was taken several weeks ago. This was the time when the club’s coach Freddie Fittler was being accused of drunken behaviour at a beachside hotel.
It has also been revealed that Samsung will stay as the sponsor of Chelsea Football Club in the UK, after knocking back a $70M dollar a year sponsorship deal from Manchester United.
Samsung insiders are also tipping a mega sponsorship deal by Samsung to coincide with the Soccer World Cup of which one of the major sponsors is Sony.
