Samsung is bolstering its health and well-being services in Australia with the availability of My BP Lab mobile app on its compatible smartphones and new Galaxy Watch Active wearable.

The My BP Lab mobile application allows users to record their blood pressure to provide researchers with further insights into the relationship between blood pressure and personal health.

Designed by The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and Sage Bionetworks, My BP Lab has received funding from a number of organisations, including Samsung Electronics.

Blood pressure readings will be taken via an optic sensor on the back of the devices – on a smartphone, this is done by placing the user’s finger over the device’s sensor.

The data will be shared anonymously in an ongoing study at UCSF to better understand the effects of stress and emotions on the human body and the treatment of blood-pressure-related conditions.

The launch of the My BP Lab in Australia on Samsung devices also integrates with the existing Samsung Health platform launched in 2013 with almost 60 million monthly active users.

Samsung Australia has also launched the CALM smartphone app on a number of its devices, designed to help users track and manage sleep, and support meditation and relaxation.

“Samsung continues to build and evolve its offering and capabilities that our smartphones and wearables are able to provide customers in Australia,” says Eric Chou, Head of Product and Category Management, Samsung Electronics Australia.

“My BP Lab is an incredibly exciting addition to a growing portfolio of apps and services available on our device that are designed to ultimately help people better manage their day to lives and provide insights into their well-being.”

The app will be available for download in Australia from the Google Play Store and the Samsung Galaxy Store.

Compatible devices include the new Samsung Galaxy S10, S10+, Galaxy S9/S9+, Galaxy Note9, as well as the Galaxy Watch Active wearable device.
