Samsung has introduced a new service for customers to make payments via its smart TVs, unveiling its Samsung Pay on TV service.The service, which Samsung states was “designed from scratch to provide an easy and safe payment experience specifically for the TV”, supports major credit cards, debit cards and PayPal, along with other mobile billing options.
Following the initial registration setup, Samsung states users can in most cases complete a payment in just three steps: choosing the item they want to purchase, pressing the “Pay Now” button and then entering their PIN.
Samsung mobile device users can also transfer their Samsung account information and registered payment methods to a Samsung smart TV without additional registration steps.
Samsung has additionally announced that users will soon be able to access additional premium content through in-app purchases within games, with the first set of game titles to include: Gamefly Streaming, Buddy & Me, Deer Hunter, Eternal Warrior 3, Frontline Commando: DDAY, Golf Star and Casino World Championship.
Samsung states it has teamed up with PayPal to offer a fast and safe payment process, while Samsung’s Secure Keyboard, “the world’s first secure virtual keyboard and input mechanism on a TV”, is designed to safeguard personal and sensitive information when entering credit/debit card information or a PayPal password.
Samsung earlier in the year unveiled plans to launch its Samsung Pay mobile payments service, with payment technology, and in particular smartphone payment technology, a growing focus for the tech industry.
Samsung’s smart TV payment service will initially be offered in 32 countries on select Samsung 2014 and 2015 smart TVs.
