Samsung has announced the latest entry in its portable solid-state drive lineup which promises to deliver transfer speeds of up to 540 MB/s.
The Portable SSD T5 is said to be up to 4.9 times faster than many external hard disk drive products, and is also 90 MB/s faster than the T3 it is replacing.
Targeting business professionals, photographers, videographers and heavy content users, Samsung said the T5 offers a fast and reliable method of backing up and transferring data.
“Samsung has been pushing the envelope of possibility in portable storage and solid-state drives for years, and the Portable SSD T5 continues our legacy of leadership and innovation,” said Paul Sharpe, Director, Enterprise & Small Medium Business, Samsung Electronics Australia.
“We know Australians are interested in securing their data on a physical device, but see speed and time it takes to complete the back-up as a barrier,” Sharpe said.
A survey commissioned by Samsung found that 60% of Australians had lost content because they had not backed up data. Personal photos and memories were the most commonly files lost files at 42%, followed by media files at 34%.
The T5’s footprint is smaller than the average business card (74 x 57.3 x 10.5mm) and the drive is also lightweight, from 51 grams depending on the capacity.
“We are confident that the T5 offers a great solution for external storage, including faster transfer speeds from previous Samsung portable SSD solutions and a solid design that is lightweight and conveniently pocket-sized.”
Both security and reliability are also key product features of the T5. It supports AES 256-bit hardware data encryption using the included software for PCs and Macs, and also through an app for Android devices.
The T5 can also withstand most accidental drops of up to two metres thanks to its shock-resistant internal frame and no moving parts. Two cables are included in the box: a USB-C to C for newer computers and smartphones, as well as USB-C to A.
Two different metal finishes to the aluminium exterior of the T5 will be available: ‘Deep Black’ on the 1TB and 2TB models and ‘Alluring Blue’ on the 250GB and 500GB models.
The T5 will be available at Bing Lee, Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks from today. Prices start at RRP $199 for the 250GB T5.
