Samsung has beat Huawei to the chase and confirmed its 5G Galaxy Fold will release in selected overseas markets from tomorrow, with Australian pricing and availability confirmed “closer to local launch.”
The Galaxy Fold is Samsung’s first foldable phone, etching a new ultra-luxury phone category – initially tipped to cost around A$3,000 locally.
The device was unveiled in April, however, was pulled back after early reviewers experienced significant display problems.
Samsung has confirmed the Galaxy Fold will release in Korea on September 6, followed by France, Germany, Singapore, UK, US and more.
A 5G-ready variant will also launch in selected countries.
The Korean giant claims it refined the Galaxy Fold in the “past several months”, with design and construction improvements.
Each Galaxy Fold will also come with “exclusive access” to “specialised customer care services” including one-on-one access to Samsung experts, and a 24/7 online or phone support hub – custom to each market.
Latest reports claim Samsung is also working on a more compact affordable foldable phone, square in design, with less display space than the Galaxy Fold.

The news comes after Koh acknowledged the Galaxy Fold was released “before it was ready.”
Samsung had pledged to consistently re-release the device ‘soon’, with reports suggesting retailers had cancelled initial pre-orders amid significant delays.
