Samsung, who has a runaway success with its Samsung Galaxy S2 Smartphone, is believed to be in talks to buy the struggling Nokia. The rumour, if true, could force Microsoft to reconsider their position with the Finnish company.According to the Wall Street Journal there is little point to Samsung acquiring Nokia as it already sells Windows Phone 7 devices. There is also speculation that Microsoft may make a new offer for Nokia, after Nokia’s value plunged during the past week.
Initially Nokia was looking for $24 Billion dollars for the company, however the value has now slumped to sub $16 Billion which is close to what Microsoft is believed to have offered the Finnish company.
Both Nokia and Samsung have chosen not to comment on the rumours.
Tech Radar said that Nokia’s stock plummeting in value and its ever-decreasing market share appear to be fuelling speculation that it is in line for a takeover. Selling to a rival would be a massive fall for a brand that was at the top of the mobile phone game just seven years ago.
