The head of Samsung Australia’s TV division has said there “will categorically be no Google TV” launched in Australia. He even went as far as saying “why should we?”Philip Newton, Director of Audio Visual at Samsung Electronics Australia, dismissed trade rumours the Company was set to launch a Google TV at the same that they introduce their new Smart TV range on the 17th of April, one day in front of the LG Smart TV launch which is taking place at the new Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
“Why would we launch a Google TV? It only takes away from [what] Samsung is already offering with their new range of Smart TVs” said Newton.
The move by Samsung Australia to snub a Google TV offering could be a major blow for Google as LG Australia has also said they will not launch a Google TV offering this year in Australia.
“We did not show a Google TV at CES and we see no point in introducing another content platform when we already have an excellent platform” Newton said on choosing not to launch a similar Google TV model in Australia.
