A new Gear 3 smartwatch is also tipped by to be launched, reports the Korean Times, citing sources.
Samsung is looking to dominate the wearables market, by introducing the new smartwatches this year.
Then SIM-installed variant of the Galaxy Gear 2, may go by the name known as Gear Solo, is tipped to be launched first. It would eschew the need to be paired with a smartphone as per other watches.
It is also said to have a curved screen, Bluetooth, wireless and 3G connectivity.
The Korean giant is likely to roll out its next-generation smartwatch, Gear 3, in the latter half of this year, and be be bundled with the Note 4, also due soon.
“Samsung is working on the next generation of the Samsung Gear 2, and it will be sold in a bundle package with the upcoming Galaxy Note 4,” sources said.
Samsung already has several smartwatches including Galaxy Gear, Gear 2, and Neo and is already No.1 in that space, selling approximately half a million devices, analysts estimate.
However, more consumers are buying fitness bands as opposed to watches due to their lower cost.
But, if Samsung makes buying a pricey smartwatch worthwhile with better features like with Solo, this may change.
