Samsung is set to push further into the kitchen with the introduction of a brand new induction cooktop that comes with a virtual flame.
Induction hobs that are growing in popularity, because they
are safer than traditional electric hobs and easier to clean but on the
downside they have no real flame or indicator that an element is on. Samsung
has fixed this problem with the introduction of a new hob that comes equipped
with Virtual Flame Technology.
The hob has embedded LED lights that visualise heat in the
form of flames, and change colour to reflect the level of cooking power, it is
not known if the product will be launched in Australia this year.
With the new hotplate cooks can set one of 16 intensity
levels on any of the active cooking zones, using the hob’s magnetic knob to
adjust the temperature. The knob is detachable, so can easily be removed for cleaning.
The hob is part of Samsung’s new Chef Collection, which is a
range of kitchen appliances developed in collaboration with Michelin star
chefs, designed to bring the functionality and design of a professional kitchen
into customers’ homes.
As well as the hob, the range consists of a fridge that
allows different ingredients to be kept at different temperatures, an oven that
uses water vapour to ensure meals don’t dry out, and a dishwasher that delivers
a jet-powered sweeping wall of water for better cleaning.
“Preparing great food is not a mystery. To make a great meal
what you need is control – control over the temperature of your refrigerator,
your stove and your oven,” said Michelin-starred chef Davide Oldani, who is a
member of Samsung’s Club des Chefs.
Elena Arzak, whose restaurant also has a Michelin star,
added: “For me, moisture is also really important. Many cooks make a basic
mistake, because they think an oven is all about heat, and it’s not like that.
To get a roast just right, you have to get the moisture levels right in your
oven.”

The appliances in the Chef Collection are also built with
smart controls in mind. The oven, for instance, comes with a companion
smartphone app, which allows cooks to adjust timings and temperatures over Wi Fi,
and also sends out a notification once the cooking is complete. Eventually, all
of the Chef Collection appliances will be controllable in this way.
“Our ground-breaking kitchen appliances offer a
show-stopping level of cooking, presentation and premium style for people
whilst giving interior designers an exceptional level of innovation and quality
for their clients,” said Robert King, vice president of consumer
electronics at Samsung Electronics.
