Samsung has saved consumers the hassle of finding a compatible screen protector for its new Galaxy S10/S10+ and will be shipping the new devices with a screen protector pre-installed.
The purpose of the screen protectors is not only to prevent any damage to the AMOLED screen but to also ensure the Ultrasonic In-Screen Fingerprint Scanner is still operable.
The Galaxy S10/S10+ screen features a unique fingerprint sensor that scans the 3D contours of the user’s finger using soundwaves, which third-party screen protectors may block.
To counteract any potential damage or failure to unlock the device Samsung will be shipping their own screen protector for the new Galaxy S10 and S10+, which are set to reach consumers next week.
The Samsung screen protector will be compatible with the in-display fingerprint sensor — something that may not be possible with a third-party protector, although many are planning to release a protector that will work with the scanner.
One drawback of the protector is that it is made of plastic, which may not be as durable as glass-based options, and it will not have a warranty.
The Galaxy S10e will not require this screen protector as it does not feature the in-display scanner, instead, it houses it on the side of the device.
The upcoming Galaxy S10 5G also has an ultrasonic scanner, but it hasn’t been confirmed if it will ship with a pre-installed screen protector.
