Samsung has sent out invitations for its next Unpacked event, which is set to take place on August 13 in New York, with speculation being that the tech giant is set to unveil two new flagship smartphones. While Samsung hasn’t provided any details as to what products will feature, it is widely expected it is set to unveil its Galaxy Note 5 and a new addition to its S6 line in the form of the Galaxy S6 edge plus at the event.
A picture accompanying the invitation features a series of slightly curved lines, apparently suggesting a smartphone with a curved display. The image is slightly similar to an invitation Samsung sent out earlier in the year, which also featured a curved line, before the unveiling of its Galaxy S6 and S6 edge.
Both the S6 edge plus and Note 5 could feature 5.7″ screens, adding to Samsung’s phablet line-up.
Samsung is currently facing intense competition at both the premium and budget ends of the smartphone market, with recent International Data Corporation (IDC) figures revealing Samsung saw a year-on-year decline in its market share amid a decline in shipment volumes in the 2015 second quarter.
As noted by the IDC: “all eyes will now be on the early release of the pending Note 5 and rumoured S6 edge plus”.
