Samsung Electronics Australia has today provided an update on its ongoing product safety recall for six top-loader washing machine models.Samsung’s figures show that throughout the country the number of units resolved (reworked, refunded or replaced) totals 90,242 out of a total of 144,451 units sold, as of October 19, with the percentage complete standing at 62.5 per cent.
The update comes in the wake of an ongoing campaign encouraging consumers with affected washing machines to take action.
In July, the NSW government issued a recall of the machines, with a voluntary recall having been in place since 2013.
Minister responsible for Fair Trading Victor Dominello commented at the time that consumers should be mindful of the potential dangers, stating that consumers should “take action and check the model numbers of their Samsung top-loader washing machines”.
Samsung stated that it has provided the latest information to NSW Fair Trading as part of its ongoing compliance with the notice issued under section 22 of the Electricity (Consumer Safety) Act 2004 (NSW).
Around the country, the figures show 32,350 units resolved out a total of 53,376 units sold in NSW, 23,358 out of 39,001 in Queensland, 14,996 out of 26,952 in Victoria, 7,315 out of 14,483 in WA, 4,069 out of 3,162 in SA (Samsung notes that it is possible that through retailers’ distribution channels stock may have moved from state to state) and 2,486, 1,276 and 646 out of a total of 7,477 in Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory, respectively.
