LG Electronics appears to have upped the ante in their fight with Samsung Australia by now including the tag line “The Smart” LG Cinema 3D TV. LG has also responded to recent 3D Active Shutter claims by Samsung and Sony.
SmartHouse has been told that both Companies are taking their fight back into the Courts after Samsung lost a recent application to the Federal Court to get a series of LG TV Commercials for Cinema 3D banned.
Currently Samsung Australia is concentrating their TV marketing on the use of the words ‘Smart TV’ to sell their new range of Internet enabled TVs, while LG Australia has pushed their new Cinema TV offering, which claims that their Passive 3D TV technology is superior to the Active Shutter 3D TV technology offered by Samsung.
During the recent NRL State of Origin Series LG heavily promoted their Cinema 3D offering but last night their strategy appears to have changed with tag lines appearing during the Reds Vs Crusaders Super Rugby Final.
Recently LG Electronics wrote to retailers in various Countries of the world, where their new Passive 3D Technology is being sold to point out the difference between what Samsung is offering and what LG is selling.
LG has also released an independent research study that claims that 80% of consumers preferred their “Passive” 3D technology over the Active Shutter technology being used by both Sony and Samsung.
SmartHouse has asked Samsung Australia to produce any research that may disprove LG Electronics claims. We have also asked for information on their sales numbers of Active Shutter TV’s in Australia since the LG campaigned started along with any information regarding their claimed superiority of Active Shutter technology.
To date no information has been provided.
Shortly after we revealed the Federal Court fight between LG and Samsung both Sony and Samsung came out with statements claiming that more consumers had purchased Active Shutter technology than Passive 3D TV technology.
LG responded to SmartHouse claiming that while active flicker 3D currently has the bigger market share, that’s not the core issue.
Executives for the Company said that ‘Until very recently, consumers have had no alternative. We’ve already seen momentum towards LG Cinema 3D in the short time it’s been available. At launch, LG’s Cinema 3D HDTVs quickly rose as the top-selling models, which clearly caused the competition to take notice-So much so that they’re willing to engage in the mud-slinging tactics they said they would avoid, such as publishing ads with “black bars” and distributing in-store props to attack competing formats. It also made them reactive enough to slash prices.”
In a letter titled “3D TV: Setting the Record Straight” and addressed to “Dealers, Distributors and Friends,” LG senior vice president Jay Vandenbree defended LG’s passive shutter approach, arguing that “consumers favour passive 3D technology, like LG Cinema 3D, because they prefer every aspect of the passive 3D TV experience.”
He goes on to say that “Passive 3D TV is thrilling consumers by giving them comfortable, affordable, no-batteries-needed theatre-style glasses; superior quality at an affordable price; outstanding picture quality and an amazing overall experience, incorporating similar technology to what they’ve experienced in the theatre,” he continued.
“At LG, we’re committed to giving consumers the technology and viewing experiences they prefer ? not the technology we have and need to sell. Unlike some competitors who are making technology claims that may well confuse consumers, our approach is basic: focus on the consumer benefits and what real consumers think about Cinema 3D,” Vandenbree said.
