SBS and Stan, the Nine Entertainment Co. and Fairfax Media joint venture, are teaming up, today announcing an agreement to bring SBS’s World Movies to Stan.With the video streaming service Stan unveiled earlier this month, more colour has been added today on the make-up of its offerings with the announcement that World Movies will be included in its monthly fare.
It had earlier been announced that Stan had secured the rights for Breaking Bad along with first-run rights to Breaking Bad’s prequel Better Call Saul, with Stan advising at the time further details on its line-up were set to be released.
A launch date for Stan has yet to be locked in, although the arrival of Netflix in the local market in March, and with Better Call Saul slated for a February release, gives some indication of a likely time-frame within which the new service will be up and running.
World Movies will join Australian-made productions including Housos, Wilfred and Better Man in a multi-year licensing agreement with Stan, it was announced today.
European dramas The Killing, The Bridge and Prisoners Of War, along with other programs, will also be provided under the agreement.

Mike Sneesby, Stan CEO, stated the partnership “shows a commitment to collaborating with the industry’s best in bringing a new standard of entertainment to Australians”.
