Computer hacker who broke into the email accounts of celebs including Scarlett Johansson and Mila Kunis could face 6 years jail time.
Christopher Chaney, from Jacksonville, Florida, has pleaded guilty to breaking into the Apple, Gmail and Yahoo email accounts of several high profile stars, including actresses Mila Kunis, Scarlett Johansson and singer Christina Aguilera.
The cunning hacker broke into the acocunts by automatically forwarding any email the stars received to another account he controlled, gaining access to their private mail and photos.
The risque photos of the stars subsequently leaked onto the internet, and went viral worldwide.
Johansson was said to be sending the saucy pics to her then husband Ryan Reynolds.
“I know my best angles..Its not like I was shooting a porno,” she later quipped.
Prosecutors at the US District Court in California are now calling for 35-year old Chaney to spend almost 6 years in prison, and pay over $150,000 in “restitution”, according to SophosLabs.
Chaney, who claimed his nude photo hacking was driven by “addiction”, is also said to have accessed information about male stars who have hidden their homosexuality for the sake of their careers.
A US police investigation looked into a ” wave” of hacking incidents involving 50 celebrities, including”High School Musical” star Vanessa Hudgens, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus.
And authorities in the US are also warning they will come down harder on such hackers in the future and will impose tougher prison sentences.
If Chaney is imprisioned for the 71 month term proposed it will be one of the toughest sentences ever.
Previous offenders including Michael David Barrett, jailed for over 2 years after secretly videoing TV presenter Erin Andrews naked through her hotel room’s peephole, and publishing it on the web.
