Google has announced that following its takeover of online video sharing site YouTube, its similar Google Video site will shift to being a site where users can search for their favourite YouTube clips.

The company, which purchased YouTube last November for $2.2 billion in stock, says YouTube will remain an independent subsidiary of Google, but it will support the site by “providing access to search and monetization platforms” as well as international resources when or where YouTube launches internationally.

Accordingly, YouTube video results willl now appear in the Google Video search index: so when users click on YouTube thumbnails, they will be taken over to the YouTube site.

Eventually, the company said in a release, Google Video will evolve into a service where “users can search for the world’s online video content, irrespective of where it may be hosted.”
