All indicators were that SED would reach overseas consumers this year but Toshiba’s Satoshi Niikura has said a shortage of panels has meant a likely delay launch.
Around 1000 SED panels per month are currently being produced in trial by SED Inc. (a joint venture between Toshiba and Canon) and full-scale production is unexpected before 2007.
SED (Surface-conduction Electron-emission Display) combines the quality of CRT technology – fast response, high contrast ratio and excellent depth of field – in the de rigueur slim-line form. And it can to it in large sizes (37-55 inch diagonals) in full high definition (HD) resolution – (1920 x 1080).
The tech press has been in rapture over SED’s quality since its exhibition in October 2005.
