Amazon is embracing old-school gaming with the launch of SEGA Classics bundle on Amazon Fire TV today, so users can play some Sonic in between The Marvelous Mrs Maisel episodes.
The SEGA Classics bundle includes 25 of the most popular SEGA Mega Drive games including Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage trilogy, and Golden Axe, 15 of the included games are multiplayer optional.
Of the four Sonic games, three are remastered versions which tie in nicely with the announcement of the new Sonic movie due to be released in 2019.
This collaboration is the largest bundle of SEGA games on any streaming player and celebrates the 30th anniversary of the SEGA Mega Drive.
Unlike other iterations of old-school gaming solutions — PlayStation Classic or Nintendo’s mini NES and SNES consoles — Australian Fire TV customers can access the classic SEGA games via a single app on their Fire TV.
There is no need to purchase a console or controller, or even switch HDMI outlets, as the Fire TV remote is used as the default gaming controller. However, users can pair a compatible Bluetooth controller to their device.
While this may not be the most ideal way to game, it’s a more accessible avenue for those that may not want to shell out for a miniature version of an old-school device.
SEGA Classics is available now on Fire TV devices for $19.99 in the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, Australia, France, Italy, and Spain.
