Selfies will replace passwords: that’s the buzz on tech street as evidenced in the applications developed by companies such as MasterCard Uber and HSBC.
They are developing facial identity check apps based on photos taken by a smartphone’s front-facing camera. The apps allow consumers to store their photo in a dedicated eN C Rypted server that becomes the basis of a new authentication system.
The app will only require the consumer to look at the selfie camera to initiate or complete an online credit card transaction.
Mastercard says the technology will rease security when making payments that don’t lude a face-to-face interaction. Uber is already said to be using the system.
