Sennheiser and Apogee have launched two new digital clip-on microphones, the ClipMic digital and MKE 2 digital, designed to work in conjunction with iOS devices.Both mics feature a Lightning connector, directly connecting to iOS devices such as the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, leaving the headset socket free to monitor audio being recorded.
Apogee’s mic pre-amp and A/D conversion circuitry is built into both the ClipMic and MKE 2, providing “maximum gain with minimal noise”, with the A/D converter providing resolution of up to 24-bit/96 kHz.
The MKE 2 has been designed with the professional in mind, for recording speech in the field, providing “a wide, natural frequency response, extended dynamic range and excellent transient response”.
Apogee’s MetaRecorder audio recording app acts as a companion for both mics, featuring multi-take recording, tagging and file organisation, 24-bit/96 kHz recording quality, and software control of the mic input level and recording presets.
“Capturing audio with a high-quality microphone directly at the source will add a new dimension to your videos,” Wolfgang Fraissinet, Sennheiser director audio recording, commented.
“Speech intelligibility will increase tremendously, and will retain this quality when the speaker is moving. The fact that we feed the mobile device with a professionally converted digital signal results in the best possible sound quality.”
The ClipMic will be available from mid-May, with the MKE 2 to follow a month later.
