Is the Seven Network set to launch a new HD channel? This is a question being asked after tech website EFTM spotted a new channel emerge on electronic program guides.EFTM notes the channel appears as channel 76 in Sydney, confirming the new channel is currently being broadcast in MPEG-4.
EFTM has speculated that Seven is about to announce and launch a simulcast of its main channel in HD.
Should Seven do so, it would follow the Nine Network’s launch of 9HD, a simulcast of Channel Nine, towards the end of November.
Another possibility is that Seven could be looking to launch an entirely new channel.
Should MPEG-4 be used (as it is with 9HD), users with older television sets may need to upgrade to MPEG-4-compatible sets should they wish access the broadcast.
Seven has yet to officially confirm what the channel will be devoted to or when it will launch.
