One such home exists, in a new 38-house display development on the corner of Portside and Tiller Street, Lake Kawana, nestled amongst the ultra-chic Stockland Display Village on the Sunshine Coast – open to home-owners, renovators and architecture enthusiasts seven days a week.
Named ‘The Intelligent Home’, the four-bedroom integrated smart house boasts three different home cinema concepts – a dedicated sound-proofed home theatre room with cinema projector, screen and custom-built theatre seats; a master bedroom with a drop-down plasma hidden in the bulkhead; and a complete living room set-up with in-wall surround sound system.
Designed by Brisbane-based Electronic Interiors (a division of Toombul Music) and built by Smart Choice Homes, The Intelligent Home was designed to showcase the different custom installation options available to home owners, giving them the opportunity to use and learn about the fully-working technology at their leisure.
“Ultimately it’s a specialised showroom, designed from the ground up to show the public how easy this technology is to use,” said Electronic Interiors director, Justin Bull.
Taking two long years of planning and an extra five months to build, the display home features state-of-the-art automation and entertainment equipment including keyless entry, intercom, Dynalite lighting control which ties in with the fans and blinds, an iPod dock connected to six distributed audio zones, a decked-out gym, three visual areas, patio lighting and audio, in-built ceiling speakers, and an LCD built-into the ensuite sink splashback, all controlled via two RTI touchscreens

The unique house also won a national CEDIA (Custom Electronics Design and Installation Association) award for Best Special Project in June.
“We specialise in custom installation design. We will sit down with clients and design their system to suit their lifestyle requirements,” said Bull.
“There isn’t really anywhere else in Australia that people can experience something like this. We’re showing people what they can and can’t do with technology – this isn’t possible at retail level.”
Visitors to the site will be taken on a guided tour by staff, with individual consultation opportunities available. The display home also offers a glass-fronted ‘engine room’, allowing visitors to gage the benefits of a centralised technology system.
