The headset measures 55 x 18.5 x 8mm and weighs 9 grams, making it one of the slimmest headsets in the market today. In addition to the headset, you also get an AC charger, three silicone eartips and a clip-on earloop.
The headset’s power switch is located on the left side, while the volume/mute button is located on the opposite side. The Call button up front allow users to take a call or end it, redial, initiate voice dialling, reconnect lost connection, activate pairing and activate multipoint. An LED light located near the earpiece shows the battery life and Bluetooth status.
Pairing the M100 to a Bluetooth-enabled phone was easy. The LED flashes red/blue to indicate that it is ready to be paired up to a phone. Users would normally key in a passcode to synchronise the headset to the phone, but we did not encounter this when we connected it to our Samsung Galaxy S. Its multipoint technology also allows a user to pair the headset to two Bluetooth devices.

The unit gives a status report on how much talk time is left every time the power is turned on, allowing users to charge the unit accordingly. iPhone users can monitor the battery level of the M100 as it automatically shows a battery meter on top of the phone. The lightweight profile of the headset makes it comfortable to use for prolonged periods. If you are not used to using the gel eartip, then you can always use the ear loop for that ‘perfect fit’.
We tested the M100 in different environments to test its audio quality. The unit automatically increased the volume when we were inside the train, allowing us to hear the person on the other line without problems. The person on the other line saying that background noise was kept to a minimum and our voice was clear.
Users won’t second guess when to charge the unit – the LED flashes red twice and plays two tones when the battery is low or flashes red thrice and plays three tones when it is critically low. It takes about 90 minutes to fully charge the headset.
The Plantronics M100 is a comfortable piece of headset that keeps conversations clear. It is easy to use and it is impossible for you not to know what’s going on (thanks to its voice prompts). It is available now for $129.
